A Change in the Will

Upon arriving, Inspector Amar introduces the officer in charge with the case - Sergeant Akiera Ilyana.
"Please, call me Kiera," she bows to you with a smile. After both of you have acquainted with each other, you follow her to the crime scene.
It is a foggy morning up on the hill where both of you have arrived. A car had overturned and fell off a cliff. Sergeant Kiera examined the mangled body in the driver's seat, exchanging a few words with her forensics crew who was already there. You carefully scan the broken railing and the winding, downhill road leading to it. There are no tire marks.
"Brake lines were neatly cut," Sergeant Kiera says to you. "So, the brakes cannot be used, making the driver fell to his death inside his car last night. From his driver's license, the victim's name is Izzul Afif and he lives up the hill. Want to join me while I break the news to his next of kin?"

Both of you hop into the police cruiser and hop out again in front of a comfortable bungalow. A handsome man answers the door identifying himself as Amir Ariff, the nephew and personal lawyer of the deceased.
When he heard the tragic news, Amir Ariff seems stunned and asks both you and Sergeant Kiera to step inside. The first thing you notice is a balloon bouquet and some flower bouquets resting on the living room table in the big hall.
"A birthday party?" Sergeant Kiera inquires.
"For Uncle Izzul," he answers her. "My cousins and I came over for a little celebration last night. After that, Uncle Izzul drove off to pick up some important documents he left at his office. It was already late so all of us went to sleep as we were expecting to see him again this morning. And now you say he's dead?"
"Yes, sir. Probably just minutes after leaving the house." Sergeant Kiera does not mention the brake lines.
The other inhabitants wander into the entry hall and Sergeant Kiera informs them of the news. Izzul Afif's other nephew, Zawir Zaidane, and niece, Wan Adreen seem just as stunned as Amir Ariff, while the housekeeper, Pak Nadzran, reacts with a chilly frown.
"Do you know anyone who might have wanted your uncle dead?"
"I can think of three," Pak Nadzran answers immediately. "During dessert, Tuan Izzul made an announcement. He had just changed his will. Instead of leaving his money to charity, he had divided his estate evenly among his niece and nephews."
"That's right," Wan Adreen admits. "It came as a complete shock to all of us."
"What a tragic coincidence!" You can see Zawir Zaidane can barely repress his grin when he said that.
"Exactly," Sergeant Kiera agrees. "What did you all do after dinner?"
Zawir Zaidane, an online broker, is the first to answer. "I was overwhelmed by the news, so I went to my guest bedroom to call my wife as soon as we left the table. I was still on the phone when Uncle Izzul drove off."
Wan Adreen, a pediatric surgeon, has a similar, equally provable alibi. "I was on my mobile phone, talking to the hospital. I imagine the phone company can verify the time."
Amir Ariff, the lawyer continues with his alibi. "I was with Uncle Izzul. We were taping a video birthday greeting for the company offices. Pak Nadzran was working the camera."
Pak Nadzran nods in agreement. "Why do you need to know this, officer?"
"For our report," Sergeant Kiera replies and then she motions you aside. She looks disappointed. "If their stories check out, we're stumped. None of them had a chance to get to the garage and tamper with the brakes."
By then, you have already deduced who the main suspect is....

You announce to everyone in the hall that you have deduced the main suspect of the murder of Izzul Afif. While everyone's eyes are on you, Sergeant Kiera is perplexed. "Are you saying their alibis won't check out?"
"Not at all," you look carefully at each suspect. "They might indeed. Zawir Zaidane might have been on the phone the entire time. The same might be true for Wan Adreen. As for Amir Ariff, if we didn't believe Pak Nadzran's testimony, then we could check the time stamp on the video recorder. I assume that they're all telling the truth."
"Well then, when were the brake lines cut?"
You pause for effect. "Before dinner."
"Before dinner?" Sergeant Kiera is still confused. "Mr. Izzul Afif only announced his will at the dinner table. Before dinner, no one had a reason to want him dead."
You smile. "If you were Mr. Izzul and you were changing your will, who would you go to?"
"A lawyer, of course."
"And who was Mr. Izzul Afif's lawyer? His nephew, Amir Ariff."
"You're right." Sergeant Kiera has just realised. "We'll check that will. If Amir Ariff drew it up, then he is the main suspect - the only person who knew ahead of time about the inheritance."
Sergeant Kiera quickly calls up her subordinates to round up the suspects for further investigation. Both of you then leave the bungalow and return to the police headquarters.
When you arrive, Inspector Amar Najmi is there to greet you.
